PTSD & Related Psychopathologies following Stillbirth
The Role of Decisions Made by Women
In this research collaboration with Sourasky Medical Center , we examine the psychological effects of stillbirth, in terms of PTSD, complicated grief and anxiety. We specifically examine the role of various decisions made by women (e.g., to see/hold the baby, to get involved in burial arrangements) in psychopathology following the loss. Our lab is also a member of an EU (Horizon 2020) COST Action Grant, funding a large network of researchers and clinicians from across Europe to work together on childbirth-related trauma.
Couple Therapy for PTSD:
A Clinical Trial
In this ISF-funded study (a collaboration with Prof. Rachel Dekel, BIU), we are currently examining the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral conjoint therapy (CBCT), an evidence-based intervention for couples in which one partner suffers from PTSD. This complex study combines both psychological (e.g., emotion regulation, spousal accommodation) and physiological (HRV, physiological synchrony between partners) measures.
Identification With The Aggressor Following Trauma: An Experimental Study
In our research, we are currently conducting a study that focuses on exploring the phenomenon of identification with the aggressor among women who have experienced past or ongoing relationships of violence or abuse. This research aims to test the effectiveness of an experimental task specifically designed to manipulate the state of identification with the aggressor. Through the examination of the psychological, emotional, and interpersonal consequences of this situation, our goal is to gain insights into this phenomenon and contribute to future studies in this area.
Co-morbidity
between Autism Spectrum Disorder & PTSD
This study, currently funded by the Association for Children at Risk in Israel, is a novel attempt to understand ASD-PTSD co-morbidity - its prevalence, underlying mechanisms and unique clinical profiles. We are also examining the potentially-unique perception of trauma among those diagnosed with ASD. The project is a collaboration with Prof. Ofer Golan's autism research lab, also located in our department.
Fibromyalgia: Psychological, Biological & Therapeutic Aspects
In our lab, we are currently conducting several studies examining fibromyalgia (FM). FM is a chronic, stress-related pain disorder, with high psychiatric co-morbidity (depression, anxiety, PTSD). We are now commencing a new study in collaboration with Haifa University examining the temporal dynamics and fluctuations in pain and their association with psychological distress, as well as with physiological markers (e.g., heart rate, GSR). We are also examining the effectiveness of mindfulness-based therapy and CBT for this condition, in large scale randomized controlled clinical trials.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy for IDF Soldiers
In this unique collaboration with the IDF, we are examining the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction for enhancing psychological resilience among soldiers situated at Israeli border crossings ("המעברים"). We are looking at both psychological (cognitive flexibility, reduced burnout and stress) and physiological outcomes of this intervention.
